Me being here at ColourLovers could be summarized as a tongue-in-cheek paraphrase of Vin Diesel's Riddick: "I AM NOT AFRAID OF COLOR, THE COLOR IS AFRAID OF ME".

Now seriously, after reading a few books on color theory, my conclusion is that you can't get the truth about color unless you get down and dirty with it. Take Itten, for example. He wrote THE book on color theory and is recognized as a great teacher, but... his art sucks. Really. So I guess good theory is only the seed of good practice, but nothing more. This site is a wonderful tool for the practice of color.

I'm a graphic designer and an art graduate. I loved sketching since I was a child, and I loved looking at beautiful letters as a kid (I've come to own a letraset catalogue). I crafted my own toys out of paper. Later, it all came together. I love taking photos (I filled 30gigs on my lastest 9-days trip, so go figure) and haunting ffffound.com. I love going beautiful places with friends or just killing time with them. I wrote some poetry back in a depressive phase. Since I've grown out of it, I seldom write, but I love art in all of it's many forms. (And I usually spell "its" wrong :) ) I have an endless curiosity, igniting temporary interest for too many topics. My internet bookmarks list is an endless purgatory of possibilities.

I love experiments. I love humor. I love finding art in games. I love making panoramic images and morphing portraits. And more crazy stuff like that.

I think art is everywhere around us, you just need a fresh eye and an open heart.

These are the palettes i love the most on this site. I had a hard time selecting from tons of wonderful stuff. These are subject to change regularly as i find new stuff and have time to spare.




THE META PALETTE PROJECT (MetaPal).
The combination of more palettes into one which distills their common character into an essence.

Why do such a thing? To discover a new, emergent palette, more beautiful than the others. Or uncover some pattern in our tastes. Plus I love experiments, discovery, beauty and knowledge. I love playing and tinkering with stuff.

How is it done?(4th version of the calculus algorithm) The colors from the original palettes are first "plotted" into a 360x100px image, where they are arranged on x and y axes by their hue and luminosity. Clusters of colors form. I chose the colors for the metapalette from the biggest 5 clusters averaged. Since averaging produces muted colors, I do various ranges of cluster boundary calculation. This results in more versions of the final metapalette, larger radiuses producing more muted colors. I choose the one that seems to do the most justice to the original palettes. The order and width of the colors are precisely matched to the size of the cluster they originate from. Previous versions of the calculus algorithm had more subjectivity and intuition built into them.




1 MILLION COLORS EXPERIMENT. This color is THE color.
Having found the color that 1 million palettes on this site average to, and disappointed by it's... grayness, I concluded the experiment a failure. Until today. When it struck me. Increase the saturation, dude! I did that(3rd color in the palette). Then I also increased the lightness(5th color)

This is it. This is OUR color. 1 Million palettes on this site average to this hue. RGB 255 123 0. CMYK 0 52 100 0. Or HSB 29 100 100. Call it what you might, I'll call it "Color of 1 Milion"
