does it take a while for the server to process a new icon or picture you upload? because when I tried, nothing happened. Just making sure.

No, you're right, it usually doesn't.

This can also happen because the old version of the picture is cached in your own computer.

Hitting (I think) Ctrl F5 clears that for you. But as you noticed it usually comes right by itself as well.

Another quick question:

If you remove yourself from a persons group of lovers, are they notified under recent activity? Or does your avatar just disappear? I've never done it, but I'm wondering what would happen. Anybody know?

I don't think they're notified. I'm not 100% sure but it doesn't make sense to me as 1) that would create unnecessary drama 2) you're not notified when you unfave a palette.
