Dear people around the world...
I really believe that THIS things are not a problem...

I think people has the right to comment almost whatever they want and I do not consider this a SPAM thing... Actually I think the brand new DELETE button will help a lot to discover bad mood people...

I hate every time points and comments are THE BIG TOPIC!!!
There's a risk behind...
Maybe in the next two years this place will be as boring as KULER!
Enjoy LOVE...
:-)

LOL... That KOLOR place is censured too...

Eeek, I'm VERY guilty of posting palette badges in a thank you. I saw other lovers doing it and thought it was a good way for the other person and me to keep track of which palette it was. Never occurred to me I might be annoying someone. : ( Sorry.

Your not the only one, I'm definitely guilty of posting a pallet badge as a thank you. When I'm on it's just become a habit of me to thank the person. I know a put effort into making my pallets so I find it nice to thank those who appreciate my work. Its something that has never bothered me personally so it never even crossed my mind that some may find this annoying. :/

Palette spammers are a completely different subject. I think mass palettes with a purpose (thank you palettes, holiday themed palettes, etc.) are a nice tradition here, but promotion for no particular reason is tacky. Do it if you choose, but don't expect a favorable response.

I definitely agree with this.

I follow this same rule of thumb. I think if you don't want badges on your page you should say so on your profile, because otherwise people have no clue. I tend to thank people with badges, especially if they give a more detailed comment. When people post the badges as thank you's I guarantee they do not do it with the intention of annoying you, quite the opposite.

Personally I like when people thank me with their badges. If I commented on it then I truly did like it. At the beginning of the month i also go through those palettes to see if i want to relove any of them, because I do have my favorites!

However, I do get really annoyed with the palette spamming. I think it is one thing if you are trying to show a friend something he or she would appreciate or if you made them a gift or you are wishing them a nice holiday. But when a palette is posted on EVERYONE's page with no explanation in the slightest, it is pure self promotion and trying to get attention. Once I know a lover to do this I tend to have a negative view of them from then on, especially if it is done multiple times. And why does it always seem like this is done with the ugliest palettes and patterns? Hmm...

Ohhh dear... I think I am guilty of the thanking with a palette badge too. *blush* I wasn't doing it to palette spam, but just as a thank you.... I didn't know others didn't like it. I will be more careful in the future....

I posted a bunch of Christmas palettes on pages, and a lot of us traded patterns that week. Oh well. I only posted a FEW for Easter, and even less for Buzzard Day. Groundhog day got none, as well as San Jacinto Day.

I don't mind those posting palette badges in a comment when they use one of my colors. It serves as a reminder, especially for patterns, which are not as easily located.

I do not "thank" people w/my paletts.... but

if i am responded to a comment of theirs, i post my palett/pattern badge as a reminder since many of us CL can't possilbe remember who made what & when. i feel i do this as a convience to them. they can see immediately if they are interested or not, without having to click through to find my page where my palett/pattern is displayed (especially since CL site always seems slower than other sites)

if someone made a color/palett that's part of my palett/pattern, i thank them w/words,
but show them i actually used their color/palett in my palett/pattern design by showing the badge.

i also do this when someone inspires me to change up their palett/pattern. i am thank them in words & leave a badge to show them "how" they inspired me.

i do not do this to spam, but a picture is worth a thousand words, & (again) i feel i do this as a convience to them.

on my own page/comments from others, no, i don't like when people leave random creations of their own for attention, but i ALWAY welcome & am thankful when they responde to comments i've left using a badge so i can remember what they are talking about. also, if/when i've inspired others, i love to see how.

if they do it once & it's a problem, delete it. that's what the button is there for.

if they do it repeately. mention it.... if it's that big of a deal to you.... ON YOUR PAGE!

I usually thank people using the badge... I like when it is done to me, because then I can remember which palette I loved (since they are quite many). And also, when I go to other users profile I discover new beautiful palettes which I wouldn´t find by myself.
Honestly I don´t think people post their badges to promote themselves.

I don't mind if people post badges on my page as long as I know why it's there. Holiday greetings are nice and thank you's are OK.
I personally, don't feel it's necessary to thank someone for faving my palette or leaving a one-word comment. However, if someone took the time to post a detailed critique I certainly do thank them for the comments and usually include a link back to the item.
The new recent activity tab also makes it unnecessary to notify me that you used one of my colors.

Just my $0.02.

But that's recent activy ... I'm not going to check all 688 pages of my activity (I checked) to see whether somebody used a color. A palette or pattern badge in the color is just fine if you want.

Wow! I had NO idea anyone had a problem with this! I agree with Unnatural on this one. If you don't want one on you're page then say so on your profile. Although I noticed that if someone doesn't leave a badge I have trouble remembering what I commented. =[
That's not good either.

i usually reply with thanks and the badge but not for spamming purposes..and i don't have a problem with people doing the same to me, it helps me rememebr which palette i exactly commented.. i guess those who have a problem with badges should inform people , maybe on their profiles...
anyway thanks for telling us how u feel :)

I use to post palette badges, but quit. (Phew!) I thought that it just was a waste of space, and made something simple look special. If anything, I just state the name, or type a simple thank you. Even then, I usually only post a thank you (and a nice one) if I have received a comment that has detail and thought. Thank you for makes a statement of the spamming. Lets hope it quits.

And no, I can never see Colour Lover being boring like who-know-what. I know I would never let that happen. :P

but not everyone has the 'recent activity', right? isn't that just a sponsored thing? [or I thought so... correct me if I'm wrong. (:] so, I always post palette badges on colours. a comment on my palette isn't required, and that's not even the goal... I just want them to know that I thought their colour was great. (:

anyway, I don't care either way... I personally don't post thank you badges... they know what they did, haha. A lot of times, I'll just go to their profile and comment one of theirs... sort of as an indirect thank you... like pay it forward or whatever. :p

Wow, I had no idea this thanking people with the badge was an issue. I am fairly new here and noticed on my page (and recently, on others) that people thanked with the badge. I thought it was nice since my memory isn't what it used to be; it saves me from wondering what item of theirs I faved. (And believe me, if I wonder, then I have to investigate and then I end up spending much needed time trying to figure it out and then the whole day is gone without anything being accomplished.) It just goes to show that, just because everyone is doing it, doesn't make it right. I will be more aware of this in the future.

BTW, when I go to someone's page (whatever it's called ~ with the bio, palettes, comments, etc), I don't look at their comment section, I look at THEIR bio, THEIR palettes, THEIR colors, THEIR patterns...you get the idea. Even when I leave a comment on someone's page, I rarely, if ever, notice the other comments. Apparently others do, but I'm too busy trying to get things done. As for comments on my page, since they are near the bottom, they don't get much attention from me either. I check them, see who said what and if I need to respond, then I go about the day.

As for people putting their badges in irrelevant places en masse: whatever! Knock yourself out! Someone earlier in the thread already said this, but if people see things like that, it usually elicits a negative, not a positive, response. If they are aiming to get noticed, they will by some but I doubt the attention will be long-lived.

Basically, I think it boils down to this: If you don't want them on your page, say so. If one gets there accidentally, just ask the person to remove it. If you don't like them elsewhere, we humans have a wonderful brain that allows us to filter information ~ use it, and simply ignore them. I'm sorry, I just don't see the big deal. (I don't mean to offend anyone by saying that, so don't send me any hate "love notes" please.)

(Okay, what was I doing before I started rambling on...oh yeah, searching the forums for something about what HTML is allowed in our info section. lol)

This is clearly a matter of taste and conscience, but I draw the line at someone (especially a lover I don't know) posting on my profile a palette that has nothing to do with me in any way. What's even more egregious, like lukeyg said, is that they're often unappealing anyway.

To me, that's the definition of spam - sending something to someone when you have no reason to believe that they'd be interested in it.

I comment a lot. I really like it when someone thanks me and posts the palette I've commented on. This is because I am old, and truly might not remember the palette, even when it's just the previous day.

I don't mind the palette badges on my profile at all! But I don't do it myself. Typically I don't thank anyone when they comment on my palettes (which I hope people don't take as being unthankful, because I am thankful :)) I just don't want to bother people with my thank-you's. Because that's not what a thank-you is supposed to do! It doesn't bother me though, honest :)

I've got to say that I'm not a fan of the shameless self promotion though, "to my first 293470 lovers" and it instantly shoots up to #1. I mean, I didn't think it would work but apparently it does...kind of unfortunate considering all of the humble talent here.

Maybe if people are offended about palette badges the CL people could make a simple note next to the Add Comment cloud saying no badge's please! then it will be the end of this thread. PS i would tick the yes please palette badge me :-) and while your there show me your widths :-) i like to view other peoples comments to see what cool palette i missed.

But I like when people put badges in their comments. For the most part, they're thanking me or just saying nice things, and the colors make it seem so much more genuine.
