When you search for a flickr photo in photocopa or browse a palette that used photocopa, where can you find the original photo source?

Shouldn't there be a link crediting the photographer and linking back to the original photo page if it was on flickr? If it was uploaded by the user, shouldn't there be an "Uploaded by soandso"?

I may be missing something obvious, please let me know if I am.

I've been wondering this too.

I put credits in the comment section of a few of the photos I uploaded.

I agree. Although I suppose an option would be to add a comment saying where the photo was found. I find alot of my inspirations from deviant art and flickr, so incorporating some sort of tag system would be helpful.

I did a search for tarantula within photocopa and found this image
, used it and now it is in the photocopa gallery - without any attribution to the photographer.

Then I found the image on flickr here:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/furryscalyman/1100712820/

That image has a CC Attribution-Share Alike 2.0 Generic licence, and requires attribution.

Please get this sorted out Darius & Pureform, it's against the flickr API's terms of service.
Although the Flickr APIs can be used to provide you with access to Flickr user photos, neither Flickr's provision of the Flickr APIs to you nor your use of the Flickr APIs override the photo owners' requirements and restrictions, which may include "all rights reserved" notices (attached to each photo by default when uploaded to Flickr), Creative Commons licenses or other terms and conditions that may be agreed upon between you and the owners. In ALL cases, you are solely responsible for making use of Flickr photos in compliance with the photo owners' requirements or restrictions.

Photocopa seems like a very cool app, but it really needs to respect the rights and wishes of the photographer.

Support this 100%.
This is one of the reasons why i've been reluctant to search and load any images in photocopa 'cos it automatically loads it up for anyone to use without giving due credit to the original creator/uploader. I've done the same as jennyhelmbold for any images i did add to photocopa that don't belong to me.

The link to the original in flickr would be highly appreciated.
Thanks sero for bringing it to notice in such a detailed manner!

cheers.

wow... i dont know why i never even thought about this being an issue... i'm so glad the rest of you all did... i'm probable VERY guilty of this... & i'd never intend to take a photo for use w/o giving credit where it is due... & if the shoe was on the other foot, i'd probably be a little irritated at people like me... more so when people do it on purpose, but still almost as bad...

i think a tag system would be very cool, but not sure how that would work... but when the issue is fixed, i hope it is made note to all CL's so i can go & fix the images i may have done this with myself...

This is not the responsibility of the user, it's the responsibility of the application which pulls the photos - Photocopa.

It would be a nice gesture to add the photo credits when you use it, but it really doesn't do much good until Photocopa itself adds the attributions.

For example: http://www.colourlovers.com/photocopa/7313/Tarantula. If other people find this image from the gallery, they would have no idea what the attribution would be whether you marked it on your palette or not.

Oh wait, I just found the attributions! they're on the photo page themselves -
http://www.colourlovers.com/photocopa/4572,15230/Adult_Female_Phidippus_mystaceus_Jumping_Spider

The attribution is to the right of Farron's name, "Opo Terser".

If this functionality was added recently, thanks a lot! And if I'm an ass for not seeing it before, sorry about all the fuss..

Hello all...

Thanks for the concern :-)

Attribution for Flickr images has been in place since we launched Photocopa; we would never be shady like that. The only time a Flickr photo wont have attribution is if the user pasted a link to a Flickr photo directly, in that case we can only assume the image is simply "from the internet" and can't assume it's licensing. We plan on building the licensing options out to make this more customizable, but until then a photo we pull from Flickr via their API will always have attribution, otherwise the licensing is unknown.
