The Challenges of a Big Community

Hello All, Unfortunately the interwebs are not a very good tool for communicating effectively... tone and often sarcasm do not translate well at all. Throw on top of that people connecting from all parts of the world with many different backgrounds and something is bound to get taken the wrong way. ...Somebody thinks another person is in on a joke and it doesn't get well received at all. Sometimes when this happens they clear it up on their own, but sometimes it escalates and gets out of control. I try my best to keep things from escalating, but if I'm not aware of the situation I can't help. If you ever see something that is blatantly rude or offensive to you, please send me a private note about it. I'll take care of it. Haters will quickly find their way off this site, but let me be in charge of deciding when and who is asked to leave. Trust that I have the best interest of all of you at heart and that I'm working hard to keep this the most supportive and creative community online. Thanks and Happy COLOURloving. -D ![]() ![]() ![]() Dia Dia 書いた: 14 10月, 2008
It might also be worth reminding the lovers that jumping to the worst conclusion about someone who's written something you don't like -- assuming that the writer MEANT to offend -- is a path that leads nowhere good. The vast majority of CLers are good-natured, colour-loving people, just like you. Bad eggs are blessedly rare, and in a community of this size, that's nothing short of amazing. Try to cut the other CLer some slack if you can, and remember that we've all made mistakes in trying to express ourselves in writing. If something is just really, really horrible, and you can't stand it, then tell Darius about it -- he's very good about dispatching the haters. :) ![]()
