Hough’s work is an inquiry into the sense of mystery and awe that occupies the transitional space between specific conditions or states.  He is interested in the flux between binaries such as image and object, form and flatness, the fleeting and the permanent, the personal and the universal.  By creating figurative images solely through the use of surface-distortions and reflective color-shifting auto-paint, he explores the interplay between image, surface and viewer, and references the anonymous reproducibility of contemporary personal experience, its relationship to the boundary membrane of a screen, and the desire to perfect and objectify moments in time - to own them.

Burnt Food Museum

Deborah Henson-Conant is the curator of (and founder and primary contributor to) the Burnt Food Museum. The Museum is a private exhibit, rarely open to the public.

MUSEUM HISTORY: The museum was founded in the late 1980's one night when Deborah put on a small pot of Hot Apple Cider to heat, then received an unexpected . . . fascinating . . . and very long phone call. By the time Deborah returned to the kitchen, the Cider had become a "Cinder" and thus the first, and perhaps still the most impressive, exhibit: "Free Standing Hot Apple Cider" was born.

SINCE THEN, countless other works have entered the museum, such as "Thrice Baked Potato," "Why Sure, You Can Bake Quiche in the Microwave," the indestructible "Mmmm……Soy Pups," and the lovely matching set of Pizza Toast.

DOCUMENTATION: The museum, its curator and it's educational display "Before and After: Toast" were the cover story for the Jan/Feb 1992 "Journal of Irreproducible Results;" the Museum has been toured by the hosts of NPR's Weekend Edition, Morning Edition, and featured on NPR's "The Splendid Table." In 2002, a televised tour of the museum featured on the Food Network's "Unwrapped"
